A message from our Principal...

Dear Buck Lake Community,

Thank you for being a tremendous support to our school.  It never ceases to amaze me just how dedicated our community is.  I truly believe that we have the best teachers, staff, parents, and students in Leon County.  It is a privilege to be your Principal.

I would encourage you to join our Listserv if you have not already done so.  This is a great way to stay informed about the happenings at our school.  You will receive regular communication such as our Principal’s Newsletter and PTO Dispatch, as well as other timely updates.  I also invite you to follow me on Twitter @billymillard44.  I recently joined Twitter and have found it to be a helpful way to share information.

We take great pride in our home-school relationship.  Parents and family members are encouraged to visit the school, to volunteer in classrooms, to eat lunch with their child, and to be involved. Please remember that a new Volunteer Application must be done each year for you to volunteer in the classroom or to attend field trips with your child.  These applications are processed at the district level and can take up to two weeks for clearance to be granted.  Taking a few minutes at the beginning of the school year to complete this task will save everyone the frustration of not being cleared when you want to participate with your child’s class.

Please consider joining our PTO.  The PTO Board meets monthly.  This is a great group of committed parents and teachers.  We need your help in guiding our school.  This is a terrific way to get involved and we are always looking for more hands and voices.

If you ever have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, Mrs. Quiggins and I are available via email or by calling the front office.  We look forward to continuing to serve this great community.  Thank you for all your support.

Go Bobcats!

Billy Millard

    Invention Convention @ Buck Lake

Buck Lake Elementary is looking forward to hosting an Invention Convention May 3rd.  This will be an exciting time to see the extraordinary products Buck Lake Bobcats can create with their imaginations and problem solving skills!  We look forward to viewing the innovative products made by students in our 4th grade classes, as well as any individual Bobcats who want to show off their creative problem solving skills.  To become a young inventor, students need to 'ask' what problems they and their family encounter and create a list of problems that need to be solved.  Research is the next component...research the topicsInvention , including to see what other people have done to solve the problem.  Next you get to 'imagine' all the possibilities!  Begin sketching ideas to solve the problem, no matter how crazy...write it down.  'Plan' your solution to the problem by choosing one of your ideas.  'Create' the product.  We would like students to do as much of the building as possible, but safety and supervision are the responsibility of the parents.  'Test' the product to see how it works, and then 'improve' it!  Finally, you get to 'share' the product May 3 with all our innovative inventors!
